The holidays are a time for family, friends, and celebrations. Unfortunately, making sure the house is clean and decorated, the food is ready, and the presents are bought and wrapped can be overwhelming. The most wonderful time of the year can lead to financial stress, non-stop schedules, and unhealthy habits. You’re not alone if you’re feeling stressed this holiday season. Try some of these tips for a happier, healthier holiday.

1. Plan ahead. Create a menu, grocery shop, and cook ahead of time. Make a list of gifts you need to purchase. Make a budget and stick to it. Don't buy gifts that you'll be paying off for the rest of the year.

2. Say no and prioritize. Too many festivities can seem like a chore instead of quality time with loved ones. Choose your favorite holiday traditions and commit to enjoying them fully, rather than spreading yourself thin and missing out on the magic of the season.

3. Maintain healthy habits. A short workout each morning will help your decision-making throughout the day. Eating healthy snacks before celebrations will keep you from overindulging in tempting, but unhealthy, foods.

4. Take time for yourself. Cramming too many activities into an already busy schedule can lead to exhaustion and crankiness. Don't forget about your own needs. Take a nap, go for a short walk, or read a book.

5. Savor the moment. Stress prevents us from being present. Take a minute to breathe, notice the holiday decor and smells, and visit and laugh with your loved ones. You are only one person, and you can only do so much. Be realistic with how much you can handle, forget about perfection, relax and enjoy the blessings in your life.
